Launch windows are based on the proximity of planets in their orbits.  The closer they are to each other, the faster you can make the trip.  Launch windows can be many weeks, months, even years in the future depending on which planet you want to go to.  Instead of sitting on the pad for several weeks (or more) waiting for the best launch time, we've time warped to one day BEFORE launch.
